A look back at the 2014 HGV Symposium

EDITEL at HGV Symposium 2014

Participants at the 4th Mass Catering Symposium thoroughly enjoyed this conference, in large part because it included a wide variety of topics, which were discussed during lively events. The daylong symposium held at KWP’s Haus zum Leben Döbling revolved around the idea of “Using quality to overcome image challenges” and also focused on opening up new ways of thinking for the industry.

In addition to high-level presentations and forward-looking solutions, a round table of industry experts offered a lot of room for discussions, conversation and exchange among colleagues. One of the many issues discussed at the event was the paperless office and its myriad advantages. The electronic exchange of orders, despatch advices and invoices (EDI=Electronic Data Interchange) opens up a new world of efficiency and error reduction for businesses in the food & beverage industry. Markus Schmidleitner, who heads ERP at Eurest, explained how his company successfully optimized electronic purchasing. The bottom line, according to Mr. Schmidleitner, was that switching to EDI, i.e. the electronic exchange of documents, presupposed painstaking preparation and, above anything, strong support by the service provider in question or the internal IT department: “It’s not a walk in the park, but it’s worth it.”
