The BVL Ennovation Day on 29 January 2014 was all about “Revolutionizing logistics with informations flows“ and attracted approximately 100 participants eager to learn more about the challenges and opportunities inherent to new communication technologies for logistics companies and supply chain management. One of technologies that has potential for the future is the exchange of electronic business documents (EDI).

Thanks to a high degree of automation, EDI supports the business processes of any company in the long run. Gerd Marlovits, director of marketing & sales at EDITEL Austria, explained the benefits associated with EDI and showed best practice examples to illustrate how automated and centralized infrastructures can make all the difference. Phat Huynh, managing director of Telekom Austria Group M2M, was yet another speaker at Ennovation Day. He addressed the potential of machine-to-machine communication for innovative business models and efficient business processes. Boris Otto of the Dortmund Technical University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics spoke about the latest major trends, big data management and implications for logistics processes. Lambert Scharwitzl of the Federal Ministry of Defense and Sports explored the issue of data security in cyberspace.
