The company

The Vienna Danube Tower was built for the Vienna International Garden Exhibition in April 1964. It stands 252 meters tall. From its opening to June 2010, a total of 20 million people have visited the tower. Every year, the tower welcomes 450,000 visitors. The revolving café located at 160 meters is all about Viennese coffee tradition and offers a variety of homemade pastries. The restaurant located at 170 meters serves Austrian cuisine and Austrian wine and offers plenty of the Viennese hospitality that the city is known for.

The situation

In addition to regular restaurant and café service, special events, such as full-moon night events, are also available. The restaurant is also a great setting for birthday parties and weddings. To ensure smooth business operations, organization and logistics at the restaurant must function like clockwork. By introducing its new ERP system early this year, Donauturm Aussichtsturm- und Restaurant Betriebs GmbH strived to make its procurement of goods processes better and more efficient. The solution

All article master data (PRICAT) and despatch advices (DESADV) at the Danube Tower Restaurant are now exchanged through a single source via the EDI service eXite® by EDITEL. By accessing the electronic price catalogue (PRICAT), article master data can be exchanged, which makes manual article updating obsolete since article information is updated automatically thanks to EDI. Any changes regarding the products or their prices and the discontinuation of any articles are included in real time. According to Jürgen Fraller, purchasing manager at Donauturm Aussichtsturm- und Restaurant Betriebs GmbH, the most important benefit associated with the use of EDI is the automated exchange of despatch advices: “Since we no longer have to process despatch advices manually, our inventory management has become considerably faster and easier. This frees up time and resources for other things,” he said.
