EDI implementation at MANDO Corporation Poland

Launching EDI at MANDO, a Korean car parts manufacturer

Launching EDI communication

MANDO Corporation Poland is a Polish division of a Korean automotive company that manufactures car parts around the world. Since 2020, it has been successfully using EDI communication services provided by EDITEL PL.

In 2020, at the initiative of one of its clients, Mando Corporation Poland started working with EDITEL PL in an effort to implement EDI communication. Initial activities revolved around integration, i.e., the launch of the so-called development middleware and WMS/ERP configuration. The next step was to adjust processes and introduce EDI messages. The following five messages were selected: DELFOR (order forecast), DELJIT (delivery schedule), ORDERS (purchase order), DESADV (despatch advice), and one of the most popular EDI messages, i.e., INVOIC (invoice). Subsequent steps involved a training course for IT and logistics employees as well as configuration and tests.

Process optimization and automation

The key  improvements that resulted from the implementation of EDI communication  were, first and foremost, the reduction of costly logistic complaints caused by human errors as well as the reduction of the time required to handle shipments. As a result, the need for manual data entry was eliminated. This, in turn, allowed for a more efficient use of available human resources. Other positive effects associated with the implementation of EDI that were particularly appreciated by Mando Corporation Poland included instantly observable client satisfaction and meeting customer expectations. EDI communication allowed to streamline or even fully automate the processes that were previously carried out manually. This was primarily thanks to creating and automatically processing data contained in messages such as ORDERS (purchase order), DESADV (despatch advice), and INVOIC (invoice), both by Mando, its clients, and suppliers.

Benefits

Mando Corporation Poland instantly saw significant savings,  both in terms of time and money. For example, the average monthly number of orders in Mando is 329. Prior to the EDI implementation, the average time needed to service a single order was approximately 30 minutes. With EDI, it is merely 2 minutes. Per month, this means that EDI service needs just 11 hours, compared to the previous 165 hours required for manual operation.

To sum things up, the following benefits were achieved: manufacturing process optimization, cost reduction, shipping and order processing time reduction, elimination of the risk of error, reduction of complaint costs, meeting the requirements of clients and suppliers, and guarantee of data processing security. Similarly, employee satisfaction has increased significantly.
